Travel from Myawaddy


From the Mandalar Min Express bus station it is a 1.9 km journey by road to the border with Thailand travelling across the river in the Thai-Myanmar Friendship bridge. Take a motorbike taxi or rickshaw as it is difficult to walk along roads with no pavement. Once you cross over into Thailand take a 20 THB shared taxi towards the nearby town of Mae Sot.

Once you arrive in Mae Sot, you have two options for onward travel: by bus, or a flight to Bangkok. The main bus station in Mae Sot is 5.5 km from the border with Myanmar and the airport is 5.6 km away. By bus it takes about 8 hours 30 minutes to travel to Bangkok with departures in the mornings from 08:00 to 10:00 and in the evening from 19:00 to 21:30. The bus services to Bangkok are timed so that you arrive in Bangkok either early in the evening or early in the morning. Nok Air operates 5 flights a day from Mae Sot departing at 09:20, 11:15, 12:40, 15:55 and 17:50. Be aware, however, that flights from Mae Sot are relatively expensive (typically costing over 3,500 THB) compared to bus tickets, which cost only a quarter of the cost of a flight.
