About Ngwe Saung Beach
Ngwe Saung Beach is the closest beach to Yangon, and generally considered the second best beach in Myanmar to Ngapali Beach. Ngwe Saung Beach is a lot less built up and expensive than Ngapali Beach and some foreign visitors prefer Ngwe Beach for that reason.
Ngwe Saung Beach is approximately 7 km long. At the top end of the beach is the small village of Ngwe Saung where you can find cheap places to eat and drink. At the bottom end of Ngwe Saung Beach is Lover’s Island which you can walk to in low tide, although you need to be mindful of strong currents and rip tides. There are resorts, restaurants and bars all the way along Ngwe Saung Beach which cater for a variety of different budgets, although for the really cheap deals you need to go back from the beach and stay in a bungalow. Unlike some other beaches in Myanmar at present there are no annoying beach vendors constantly approaching you, although the use of ATVs on the beach and motorised water sports are good reason to search out quieter parts of the beach or walk south around the headland to the stretch of beach south of Lover’s Island. There is also an elephant camp 17 km east of Ngwe Suang village on the main road to Ngwe Suang Beach where you can take an elephant ride.
